Arthur Agatston is the author of the hugely successful book,
The South Beach Diet. Several years prior to his book being published, Agatston self-published his diet plan in pamphlet form, offering it to his patients and local markets. Literary agent Richard Pine heard about the diet from a client of his in Florida whose husband was following the plan. With Agatston's permission, Pine prepared a proposal and sent it out to twelve publishers. The book was picked up and purchased by Tami Booth, editor-in-chief of
Rodale's women's group. In 2003 the book went into print, selling approximately 20,000 copies a week.

photography books entitled Don't Take My Picture and
Basic 35MM Photo Guide. He called his company Amherst Media. It is now one of the foremost how-to photography publishing companies in all the world.
