INSPIRE READING IN CHILDREN
With an Effective Library Writing Program
ARTWORK There will be topics where incorporating artwork is appropriate and desireable.
JUDGING THE END RESULT This is how you will get parents, teachers, and a variety of members from your community involved. Have a rotating panel of judges. For instance, if the topic is "The Law and You" you could ask members from your local law enforcement community to be the judges.
PICK WINNERS & RUNNER'S-UP and encourage everyone to come back for the next contest.
FINALLY work with the children to DESIGN and SELF-PUBLISH their book. Bear in mind that a black and white book will be significantly less expensive to publish than color, unless you have lined up community sponsors to pay for production and whose names will appear in the book.
MARKET THE BOOK AS A FUND RAISER FOR THE LIBRARY
OR SOME OTHER WORTHY PURPOSE.
PICK TOPICS that will promote the reading of library books. If the topic is "An Interview with....." direct contestants to books and periodicals that include good interviews as well as resources that teach interviewing techniques.
THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS!
