PONS and the Miracle of Réunion Island is a chapter book for boys and girls set in the tropical paradise of Réunion Island. Young readers are introduced to the noble sea creature named Pons and his friends, the children Anabella and her brother Marco.  Anabella and Marco live peacefully with their parents and grandparents near the crystal blue waters of the Indian Ocean, until one day when the serenity of their lives is unexpectedly interrupted. It is then that they find themselves in a truly dangerous and frightening situation where love and courage are put to the test as Pons and the children's grandfather attempt a daring rescue.
The beautiful artwork is by Barbara Dessí.

WHAT IS A CHAPTER BOOK?    Wikipedia:  A chapter book is a story book intended for intermediate readers, generally age 7-10.  Unlike picture books for beginning readers, a chapter
book tells the story primarily through prose, rather than pictures. Unlike books for advanced readers, chapter books contain plentiful illustrations. The name refers to the fact that the stories are usually divided into short chapters, which provide readers with opportunities to stop and resume reading if their attention spans are not long enough to finish the book in one sitting. Chapter books are usually works of fiction of moderate length and complexity.

I had only published 3 books when this interview was conducted. Still, it's fun to listen to because Dr. Seavey is very curious about the name of my second book Cheroot and why I chose it!

FYI
How are these books made?
Why Poetry?

Seven of my books, The Panda Banda, Be Good Boys, ABC Poetry, Inside My Grandma's Pocket, Cheroot, The Littlest Bull, and On the Farm, are stories in poetry.  Poetry is a lovely way to capture the essence of oral and written language in all its beauty.  When creating verse, the poet employs the simplest and purest form of language rarely found in prose.  Like a song, poetry is a wonderful way to capture a young child's listening ear.  As the child matures into a reader and beyond, it will oftentimes be poetry that touches his or her heart and inspires a love of language.  Poetry is a gift of a lifetime.
