Why Poetry?
Five of my books, ABC Poetry, Inside My Grandma's Pocket, Cheroot,
The Littlest Bull, and On the Farm, are stories in poetry.
Poetry is a lovely way to capture the essence of oral and written
language in all its beauty. When creating verse, the poet employs
the simplest and purest form of language rarely found in prose.
Like a song, poetry is a wonderful way to capture a
young child's listening ear. As the child matures into a reader
and beyond, it will oftentimes be poetry that touches
his or her heart and inspires a love of language.
Poetry is a gift of a lifetime.
