INSPIRE READING IN CHILDREN
With an Effective Library Writing Program
Competiton for a child's mind is mounting daily. There are TV programs, video and internet games, movies and hand-held devices. For the older child there are IPod's, Cell Phones, My Space, etc. These forms of entertainment are sophisticated and tantalizing, robbing the younger child of his imagination and diverting the older child into a never-ending realm of socialization that has replaced quiet and solitude.
And it's all so easy.
In children 8 years and older
WHO IS READING?
Those who are forced to read
but dislike it. These children are
now in the majority and we are losing them.
Those who are natural readers in any era. However, they are reading less than in past times.
As a librarian, is there anything you can do to inspire
children to want to read more and want to come to the library?
The answer is "Yes! There certainly is."
